Q-Link: Magic Pendant or Cutting Edge Technology?
Imagine being able to purchase a product which, simply by wearing it, reduces your stress levels, increases your concentration, and promotes good health. These are some of the claims made by the makers of the Q-Link, featuring Sympathetic Resonance Technology (SRT).
Claims such as these are most often met with a mixture of interest and skepticism. After all, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is, right? Well, after learning of the involvement of William Tiller, a researcher and Professor Emeritus at Stanford University whose past work has greatly interested me, I began to research the Q-Link, and ultimately decided to purchase one and check it out for myself. Before I get into my conclusions about this product, I'd like to briefly explain SRT and how the Q-Link works. And to help manage that initial feeling of skepticism, I'll site some of the clinical studies that have been performed to investigate the effectiveness of this technology.

What is the Q-Link?
The Q-Link consists of a small pendant that is worn around the neck at all times. Since I do not take my Q-Link off, you can imagine that people ask me about it pretty often. I'll give you the same spiel I so often give to those who ask:
For millennia, indigenous systems of medicine such as Ayurveda and Chinese medicine have maintained the concept of a vital force or subtle energy field as a key element in health and wellness. In these systems, it is known as prana and chi respectively, and is often considered alternative medicine in the west. Recently, the biofield, as it is often termed, has prompted much scientific research, and ultimately has resulted in the creation of SRT and the Q-Link. Just as the the flow of charge through a wire creates an electromagnetic field, so does the movement of the constituent cells and processes in the human body create the biofield. I have heard the biofield described as a sort of conductor, directing the symphony of your body. It seems to be vital to the regulation of the systems of the body.
In an increasingly technological world, our bodies are constantly bombarded with EMF (ElectroMagnetic Fields) produced by TV's, computers, cell phones, etc. You have probably heard something of the harmful effects of these EMF. These fields interact adversely with your biofield, causing stress on cells, and ultimately degrading health and wellness.
SRT was developed to mitigate the effects of EMF on your natural subtle energy fields. The device consists of a small resonant circuit, at the heart of which is a crystalline oscillator and a tuning board which restricts the resonance to a specific frequency range. This circuit is packaged, along with an amplifying copper coil, into a watertight pendant that is worn around the neck, to hang just over the heart. In short, the Q-Link acts like a tuning fork, matching the frequency of your biofield and therefore reinforcing and improving its dynamic stability. This improved stability has the effect of increasing your ability to resist interference to the biofield by external stressors like EMF from electronic devices.
The creators of the Q-Link claim that this increased stability of the biofield results not only in a decrease in stress, but also that it improves mental functioning and concentration, as well as overall well-being and energy levels.

These explanations seemed to make sense to me, on some intuitive level; but it was still difficult for me to justify the cost without reading about some of the results.
Research
So we're talking about chi and invisible energy fields and a product that claims to improve many aspects of my life, simply by wearing a small pendant around my neck... When it comes to things like this, it is easy to be hopeful, but it is difficult to overcome the natural skepticism that we all feel. It is very difficult for some people to take leaps of faith, and yet so many of life's miracles come only to those who do. Of course, for those of us to whom faith is often hard to come by, those who think that seeing is believing, it is nice to have some solid scientific research to fall back on.
I'll start by outlining what I believe to be the more convincing of the studies done, which involves studying live and dried blood to test for disturbances to the blood morphology in two separate double-blind microscopy studies conducted by microbiologist Robert Young, PhD.
The test was designed to investigate and validate the potential of the Q-Link as a device for buffering stress and maintaining the integrity of the human cell. Blood was drawn from 16 adult volunteers, who were then divided into two groups, with one group being given an inactive "dummy" Q-Link pendant and the other a real Q-Link pendant. After wearing the pendants for 72 hours, blood was once again drawn from the subjects and examined.
In all of the 8 people who had been given the "dummy" Q-Link, there was little or no impact on the morphology of their blood cells. In addition, all 8 reported little or no notable increase in energy.
In all 8 of the people who had been given the real Q-Link, there was a significant impact on the morphology of their blood cells. After wearing the Q-Link for 72 hours, their cells were comparatively more round and symmetrical, which is the normal healthy profile. In addition, all 8 subjects in this group reported experiences of increased energy and/or health.
The pictures below are extremely convincing. This study seems to me to be a blatant indication that the Q-Link does in fact increase the body's ability to deal with stress, positively affecting the health of blood cells after only 72 hours of exposure.

After Q-Link
Another study clearly suggest that the Q-Link pendant helps to mitigate the disruptive effects of EMF on the electrical activity patterns of the brain, demonstrating beneficial effects of the Q-Link in stabilizing EEG responses in the presence of EMF stressors. Other studies involving skin conductivity and muscle weakness also show favorable results from those subjects who were given the Q-Link pendant. You can read about these studies in more detail here http://www.clarus.com/research_articles.htm
In short, I'd say yes. I was very excited when my Q-Link arrived, and anxious to see what kinds of effects it would have. Within a day or so of wearing it, I began to feel a sense of clarity in everything I did. For instance, I found myself able to express myself through speaking in a much more fluid, concise manner. This, I thought, must be that increased ability to concentrate that is advertised, and is what has made this product so popular among professional golfers and other athletes, such as Josh Beckett of the Boston Red Sox, who rely on their ability to concentrate.
Here's the thing, though: As with everything in life, your attitude and perception make all the difference. There will be some hardcore skeptics that will read this article, check out the studies that have been done, and will still not be convinced that this technology works. For these skeptics, I would advise you not to purchase a Q-Link, because it is quite likely that even if it does reduce your stress and increase your vitality, you will not believe that it has. This is a product for open-minded individuals who recognize that just because something is unfamiliar does not mean that it doesn't work.
If you are open-minded, and are at all interested in this field or in the possible benefits of this technology, I would suggest you purchase a Q-Link and try it out for yourself; they offer a 3-month money-back guarantee, if you decide it's not for you. The cost of shipping is a small price to pay for the chance that something may very well benefit your well-being and reduce stress and it's negative consequences in your life.
